Night Shift

I am on night shift for the next 10 weeks. Getting used to this is a bear. If any of you have noticed my posting quality dropping off, that’s why. They have me on the 4 pm to 4 am shift. The extra $6 an hour in shift differential is nice, but it’s been awhile since I worked nights and is taking some getting used to. I’m just getting to bed while the wife is getting up to go to work. I worked on Labor day, which gets some good bonus money. Time and a half, plus the $6 an hour for shift differential. Still, tired.

Since I have been dragging, I didn’t get a lot of time for researching the news today, so instead I will tell you what’s up in emergency medicine. This week, we saw some interesting stuff. Here are some of my more notable patients:

  • A guy complaining of abdominal pain and constipation. He had a large blood clot in the main vein that runs from the digestive system to the liver (Portal Vein). It was 85 percent blocked. Because he was so big and the clot so large, he got the largest loading dose of Heparin I’ve ever given- 10,000 units.
  • A man who came in with groin pain. We had to let him know that he has testicular cancer.
  • A woman with congestive heart failure. She damned near died when her lungs rapidly filled with fluid. She was joking with me and fine. I left the room and 10 minutes later, she was gasping for air and needed BiPAP, a nitroglycerine drip, and Lasix. At one point, I thought she was going to code.
  • A guy who did code. Wasn’t my patient, but a code is all hands on deck. He used the bedside commode, passed about 1 liter of blood, then went into cardiac arrest.
  • A woman who stabbed herself 10 times because “I was sad.” She remembers feeling sad, and said the next thing she remembers is seeing the knife on the floor and being covered in blood.
  • A woman who took some penicillin and had an anaphylactic reaction to it.
  • A woman that had been trapped in a burning vehicle who had a hoarse voice and a cough.
  • Interestingly enough, I didn’t have any COVID patients this week, but other nurses did.

We have been mostly at 3:1 nurse:patient ratios until 9pm when the mid shifters leave, then we go to 4:1. That means I see anywhere from 10 to 15 patients per day. One thing that gets me is how grown adults who are covered in tattoos can be afraid of needles. I’m talking people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who cringe, and even cry when you start an IV on them. Three of my patients in one night were actually SCREAMING at the top of their lungs because I started an IV on them. In one case, a woman’s heart rate went from 90 to 150 while I was getting her IV.

Anyhow, since my work week is done, I now have 5 days off in a row. That means I have work to do around the house.

Buyback

This mental midget is claiming that it is impossible to deport 9 million illegal immigrants because it is too big of a job. I wonder if he believes that we can “confiscate” all 600 million guns in American hands.

How about we have a buyback? Anyone caught employing an illegal gets fined $10,000 per illegal, per day that they are employed. Make it so that anyone who knows of an employer doing so can file a qui tam lawsuit and is entitled to 20 to 50% of any fines collected.

Picture your average construction site- 5 illegals spend 3 months working 5 days a week building a house. A competing construction company sees this and files a lawsuit. The construction company can pay a three million dollar suit, which will net the suit filer an award ranging from $60-150,000.

The jobs will dry up overnight, and the illegals will self deport.

I can’t think of a title

Retards who don’t understand economics have this saying:

The carpenter can’t run out of inches

The stadium can’t run out of points

The airline can’t run out of FF miles

And the USA can’t run out of dollars

Inches are a unit of measurement. The carpenter is using that measurement to count how much lumber he has. He can’t run out of inches, but he can run out of wood.

Points are a unit of measure. It is a way for sporting events to measure the success of the team in achieving it’s objective. The stadium can’t run out of points, but teams can be unsuccessful and not receive any.

At a macroeconomic level, money is also a unit of measurement. What the morons who support modern monetary theory don’t understand is that the money in circulation is a measure of a nation’s productivity. If the total of all goods and services produced by a country is far exceeded by the money in circulation, that money becomes worth less, and you get inflation.

Let’s illustrate this by pretending that the US government has just mailed a check to everyone in the country in the amount of ten million dollars. Now everyone has millions of dollars and has just decided to retire. Cool.

Now where are we going to get food from? The guy that used to work at the grocery store, or the woman who worked at the coffee shop no longer works there. Everyone has money, but nothing to eat. At this point, food has far more value than does money, and your $2 can of soup now costs $100,000 because no one is making any more of them.

That’s why seeing things like this really makes me shake my head in wonderment:

Universal Basic Income is basically what we had during COVID. Everyone received tons of money. They got free checks, free PPP loans, the government was basically dropping cash from helicopters- about $5 trillion dollars hit the US economy. Everyone got three checks totaling $3,000 or more in the space of a year. What did that do?

Inflation.

Universal Basic Income (UBI) would be like that, but on steroids. They want everyone in the nation to get checks from the government of $12,000 a year- 4 times as much as was sent out during COVID. Now ask yourself what will happen when this is happening on a constant basis.

Tyrone and Shaniqua will take their checks and try to buy some ribs and gold toofuses. The problem is that this massive outlay of money means that everyone wants ribs and gold. So the cost of ribs and gold, as well as everything else, will skyrocket.

The people who are poor will still be poor, despite the fact that there are more zeroes in their bank account. It’s just that so many people in this country are completely ignorant of this fact.

You better hope that the government runs out of inches, because they are going to be giving you every one of those inches, good and hard. Robin and Jessica won’t be the only ones getting fed those inches.

Intimidation

Remember when antigunners were posting the names and addresses of people who had concealed weapons permits, because people have a “right to know?” Now that the same thing is being done in the case of Trump’s grand jury, or the names and addresses of people who are turning in their guns for free sneakers, it’s all of a sudden wrong to “dox” people.

You have been doing this to gun owners and others with whom you disagree for decades. So- right back at ya.

The jury and grand jury system rely on the jurors being held to the community standards, and the way that is done is by publicly shaming people who don’t adhere to those standards. We have a right to know. That’s YOUR standard, and now you are going to live by it.

Republican Party

So far Michigan, Connecticut, and New Hampshire’s Secretary of State are saying that they will not permit Trump to be on the ballot. Lawsuits have been filed in Florida and Colorado to have Trump barred from appearing on the ballot.

The nonprofit advocacy groups Free Speech For People and Mi Familia Vota Education Fund invoked that clause Wednesday when they sent letters to the chief election officials in nine states, including Griswold in Colorado, requesting that they exclude Trump, a Republican, from their state’s ballots. Mi Familia Vota is affiliated with La Raza, a racist communist group that seeks to overthrow the US government. I have blogged and warned my readers about them for over 15 years.

The loss of the electoral votes of the states indicating that they will bar Trump from the ballot: California, Connecticut, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon and Pennsylvania would give Biden 319 electoral votes, making it a lock that the Democrats will win the 2024 election. The fix is in, and the 2024 election is a done deal.

Our government is being overthrown, yet the Republicans not only sit and do nothing, they actively support the insurrection. I maintain that our government was ousted in a coup and the Republicans are supporting it.

Florida has a closed primary. That means the only way you get to vote for a candidate is to be registered to vote as a member of his party. I am currently registered as a Republican, and I will be voting for Donald Trump in the primary. I will not be voting for anyone else in any other race. Once I have voted, I will immediately change my registration to “no party affiliation.” Why?

Because I used to think that the Republicans were spineless cowards. I now realize that there is no such thing as a RINO. The typical Republican is a power hungry weasel who will say whatever they have to say in order to remain in office and in power. They don’t care about the voters, nor do they care about the nation. I can no longer vote for any of our current politicians.

Isn’t This Robbery?

A customer with a receipt showing that they paid for their food through an online app is asked to leave without the merchandise that they paid for. The customer says that all they want is either their food or a refund. The manager refuses and tells the customer to leave the store. He refuses, and the woman calls the cops. She also gets angry and slaps the phone that is being used to film the encounter out of the customer’s hand.

Even though she asked the customer to leave, he is still entitled to either a refund or the merchandise he paid for. To have a manager then call the cops and slap the phone out of his hand turns this from a civil matter into strong armed robbery. It doesn’t surprise me to see the demographics involved.

A side note, Popeye’s has really good chicken, though.
