Summer is Here
I know that summer in the northern hemisphere begins on the longest day of the year. Summer here in Central Florida, as far as I am concerned, begins when the low temperature for the day is 75 degF (24 C for those of you outside of the US). We hit that point this past week. Our morning low was 74.9 degF, and the dewpoint was right at the same temperature. The high was 92 degF (33 degC) today.
The reason for this, is that the low temperature can’t go any lower than the dew point. At that point, any further energy lost from the atmosphere is spent condensing water vapor, not reducing the temperature. When the dewpoint is at that point, the air starts becoming thick and the afternoon rains begin. If you have ever been in Central Florida during the summer, you know that it rains virtually every afternoon. That’s where we are now. Summer is here.
The dew point temperature is the temperature at which the air can no longer hold all of its water vapor, and some of the water vapor must condense into liquid water. At 100% relative humidity, the dew point temperature and the air temperature are the same, and clouds or fog can begin to form. While relative humidity is a relative measure of how humid it is, the dew point temperature is an absolute measure of how much water vapor is in the air (how humid it is). In very warm, humid conditions, the dew point temperature can reach 75 to 77 degrees F, but rarely exceeds 80 degrees.
Dew point is the best indicator of comfort in a hot climate. Once the dew point of the air exceeds 66 degrees Fahrenheit or so, the air begins to feel hot and uncomfortably stuffy. The reason for this is that your perspiration can not evaporate to cool you off.
The dewpoint here will slowly increase from now until summer breaks in late September. The people who live here know that anything needing to be done outside between May and September is best done before 11 am, when the thermometer typically breaks 90 degF. It isn’t the temperature, it’s the dew point.
Here in Florida, there are 4 seasons:
Hot: March through May
F’ing Hot (Also known as Hurricane season): June through mid September
Still Hot: Mid September through Mid November
Snow Bird: Mid November through February
Beginning in mid June, you get your outside work done in the morning then stay in the air conditioning until at least 4:30 in the afternoon when the afternoon thunderstorms come calling. That is what we do from mid June until about the middle of September.

Donald Trump is under a court order that prohibits him from speaking about, well, pretty much anything. The stated reason for this order is to prevent Trump from exercising undue influence on the outcome of the trial. The witnesses in the Trump case, the judge’s wife, and the prosecutor are not under similar restrictions. The reason for this is simple- the court is trying to railroad Donald Trump.
The left has all of its minions singing in unison that Trump’s free speech rights aren’t being infringed upon because he still has the ability to speak under oath from the witness stand. That’s ridiculous. No one has to give up their Fifth Amendment rights in order to exercise their First Amendment rights.
The left claims that, since Trump is on trial, the only place that he should be permitted to speak is on the witness stand as a witness against himself. As I have been saying, this is a show trial that is designed to destroy Joe Biden’s opponent, and ensure that Biden serves another term. If this were happening in any other nation, the US would be screaming to all who would listen that the elections were being tampered with.
Trump should continue violating the gag order. Dare the court to toss you in jail on contempt charges, then have your PR apparatus scream on every single media outlet about Joe Biden jailing his political opponent. It will raise Trump’s popularity numbers and destroy Joe Biden’s.
The response from Washington would probably also be the spark that begins CW2.

Adding Skills Can Hurt Sometimes
Now that I have completed my latest degree, our move, and my rental has tenants again, I now find myself in possession of spare time. I decided to fill some of that time by taking up Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. The gym that I joined lets you attend unlimited sessions for $200 per month, with an extra $100 if you want to add Muay Thai. The two together are what comprises MMA. There is no contract, it is a simple month to month deal.
For now, I signed up for the BJJ, with the intention of adding the Muay Thai at a later date. There are two types of classes: one group practices with the intent of competition, the other with the intent of self defense. Different approaches. There are different classes at different times each day, so you can go every day, if you so choose.
I have only gone to a couple of classes so far. The classes in the middle of the day are small, with the instructor and just three or four students. They last 90 minutes, and we spend most of the class mastering a move and the counter for it. We end each class by sparring in 5 minute rounds. (Called ‘rolling’ in BJJ). The rules for rolling are simple:
- No striking. That includes knees, feet, hands.
- No gouging of eyes, or grabbing the throat.
- No genital strikes.
- Nothing that is intended to injure or disable your opponent. This isn’t a street fight, its practice.
It makes the fight purely one of strength, endurance, and skill. Skill is a HUGE part, and a good fight is like a chess match. Move, countermove. The more skill the two fighters have, the faster and more complicated the ordeal.
Today, I was matched up with a 20 something year old who had more experience with MMA, but was about 70 pounds lighter than I am. I am very flexible and I weigh over 200 pounds, so I have advantages there. He was younger and more skilled, so there were his advantages. It turns out that his biggest advantage was endurance.
He made first contact, and I managed to throw him to the mat and land on him before he could react. I had him pinned and kept my base wide, so he couldn’t reverse or throw me off. He tried several joint locks and throws, but I was stronger than he was and kept him pinned for the next 3 and a half minutes. Then he managed to reverse before pinning me to the mat and I had to tap out. He was surprised that I was strong and flexible enough to get out of most of the holds he tried to use. In the end, he just outlasted me because my endurance ran out.
It was a lot of fun, but was very tiring. I was completely out of breath by the end of the five minutes.
By the time I got home, the right side of my chest hurts every time I move. It hurts to breathe, to bend over, and it’s even somewhat uncomfortable to type this post.
I really hope I didn’t break a rib. Even if I am still hurting, I will still go tomorrow. Today’s biggest lesson was that I need to do more cardio. I am going to work on that.

A group of fifth grade students were on a tour of the Rock Island Police Department. Students were allowed to step inside a holding cell when one of them pushed on a pillow and felt the presence of a handgun hidden inside. The student alerted staff who immediately took possession of the weapon. The gun was unloaded, and a check of the serial number determined that it had been stolen during a burglary in 2022.
If the police can’t even prevent people from getting a gun while in jail, where everyone and everything is searched when entering, then how can they prevent criminals from getting guns? Even if they turn the entire nation into a prison, criminals will still be able to get guns.

Florida Highway Patrol arrested 3 people for blocking exit 67 from Interstate 4 on Saturday afternoon. They (and one other) parked across all three lanes of the exit at about 5 pm, holding up “Free Palestine” signs and covering their faces with keffiyehs. The exit that they blocked is heavily trafficked, as it is the main entrance to the Disney complex just to the southwest of Orlando.
One of those arrested was 26 year old Isabella Giannosa. Since the address listed in the booking report is in Oveido, she is likely a student at the University of Central Florida. She looks like you would expect, kind of like Radar O’Reilly’s illegitimate child.
The second one arrested was 24 year old Jenni Nguyen lives in Winter Garden. She is the “Reproductive Justice Coordinator” for Florida Access Network, who calls themselves the only “queer and bipoc abortion provider” in Florida.

The third arrestee was My Donga Truong, also 24 years old and living in Oviedo.
Reports are that at some point, a motorist confronted them and threatened to thrash them within an inch of their lives, so they moved over a bit and let that guy through.
The left keeps insisting that this is peaceful protesting. Bullshit. There are only two ways to secure someone’s cooperation: voluntary agreement, or coercion. By physically blocking the road, you are using coercion. That is not peaceful, that is force. However, you don’t have to respond to these retards by using a violent response. The idiots are blocking the pavement, but they have left plenty of nice, fresh grass to simply drive around their stupid roadblock.
If they then try to jump in front of my car to hold me prisoner, then there will be a more forceful response from me. It won’t even involve a firearm. Just a gas pedal.
