I saw Peter’s post about cheap and filling recipes and decided to haul out one of my most visited posts ever- the recipe for Cajun Red Beans and Rice. At over 13,000 views, it’s a pretty popular one. An entire pot of these beans costs less than $14, and contains around 10 servings. That’s less than $1.50 a serving.

Where’s the garlic? Can’t do cajun without it!

I have made this recipe myself several times. I get the packs of smoked ham trimmings in the vacuum packs at Walmart ($1.88/lb), and use them instead of the sausage. Good stuff.

I regularly buy and freeze Pork Butts, they usually cost about a buck a pound and they are massive. Smoke it over night and then use the pulled pork for everything; Chili, Red Beans, etc. Beans and rice plus cheap pork for the win.
