A family at the Orlando airport discovered that gun free zones are simply areas where criminals can operate in a safe environment. The patriarch dropped his wife and kids off curbside, but was immediately car jacked at gunpoint, and his car stolen. The car was later recovered about 20 miles away from the airport.

Criminals know that everyone entering and leaving the airport are disarmed. This creates a safe working environment for them to carry out their violent, armed crimes.

A bt off topic … but Ive been lookng at EMS trauma kits to keep in the back of the truck.. Its only a matter of time before I witness a carjackng gone wrong with a good person lying in the street. Or a negligent discharge at the range…. Got the training (a few ER rotations at Bronx Municipal etc) but not the gear. Chest seals, Celox or Quick Clot, TQ’s, splint etc. Either brand name or a specific suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I also keep a fire extinguisher with my bag, right behind my seat. But I recently upgraded it as I discovered that the one I use when I catch dinner on fire isn’t much use on a flaming Ford350.

I have a FA kit under the back seat of the F150, plus the tool box has a bigger one, a fire extinguisher, and a box filled with miscellaneous tools.
When the BLM/Antifa riots were going on, there was spare ammo and 4 grenades (3 smoke and 1 capsaicin) in an ammo can under that back seat

Ok. It’s updated. I’m as unique(snowflake-ish?) as 1 in 32 L.O.L.

Maybe it’s different where you live….or I’ve just been doing it wrong all these years….but you obviously can’t go into the “secure area” past screening while armed, but when I drop anyone off (curbside), I’m always armed. I’ve never seen a sign saying I can’t be on airport property while armed, and certainly nothing that says I can’t be armed in my own private vehicle…

It isn’t, but what he was likely doing was dropping the family off with the bags before parking the car in long term. It’s cheaper to park in the long term lot then take the shuttle back, even though it’s inconvenient to do so while hauling family and luggage with you.

Here at least you can carry into the airport so long as you dont try to go past the security theater checkpoint.

On the other hand this past Christmas the malls had a ton of extra signs saying how it was illegal to carry weapons and thugs would hang around the overflow parking lots where there were no cameras. Security was all inside the ritzy stores and refused to come interview shoppers who were accosted.

In Florida, it is the same way with airports, but very few go to the airport that aren’t planning on entering the sterile area.

We can safely ignore mall signs here, too.

      I always ignore mall signs.

Criminals know who to attack – I believe they refer to the victim as “white bread.” And noted in the article, it was midnight. Midnight, for God’s sake.

You arrive at MCO at midnight you better be in defensive mode.
This is one of many situations where if you ain’t in the right frame of mind you could very likely find yourself on dangerous ground.
