Sure they do. That’s why this man in Tampa got a 1099 for $9300 in Cash App income, and he doesn’t even have an account with them.
Some criminal used his SS number so they could open a bank/cash app account. The same thing happened to me just over a year ago- some criminal opens an account using your information, then you get the 1099 for it.

I’ve heard about this before but never knew anyone it happened to. How did you get it cleared up? Might be a good post subject.

My dad years back got a nasty letter from irs about how ge failed to claim all his income on his taxes. Turned out a business in California had 7 employees using his SIN and the IRS wanted him to pay income tax on that income. Took him over a year of lawyers to get the irs to admit it was illegals using his #.

Wait until an employer brings 15 “employees” in for a drug test….. all using the same SSN.
Umm, boss man, no-go on ANYONE without a card….. and a permanent no-go on ANYONE using a duplicate….. they make up their name, birthday, SSN, etc….. companies ought to be run out of business (though they just started using temp agencies)
