Another example of a punch to the head being deadly. An altercation escalated into a physical fight, with the teen punching the 52 year old man in the head several times. The man was able to walk out of the room but started to show signs of medical distress minutes later. The man later lost consciousness and was taken to a hospital, where he died a few days later.

Never under-estimate traumatic brain injury. I have been told by credible experts that many if not most fatal punches involve the casualty falling and hitting their head on the ground or other objects. Even a concussion that doesn’t seem serious needs to be checked out. Although resulting only very indirectly from physical violence, I have nearly died of brain swelling. That process happened at least a day after the injury.

This is one way the old boxers died. They’d take a blow to the temple, get knocked out, come to but still “punch drunk”, go home and “wake up dead”. Called an epidural hematoma.
