Everyone behaves better when they're on camera.

Then wouldn't that be an argument to continue COPS and LIVE PD, instead of cancelling them?

Maybe. I don't know. I haven't watched COPS in something like 15 years, and I think I saw a snippet of LIVEPD on YouTube or something once. It had me yelling at the screen before I just shut it off.
I know there were accusations a while back of police basically scheduling big events to coincide with the filming of COPS–things like no-knock raids, and generally putting on a show for the cameras. That's not the way I would want my police department to behave.

I usta come home from a long day workin' to pay alimony and would feel better after watching an episode of Cops and think "ya know, my life could be a lot worse. Oh, wait, I don't do drugs or steal shit or etc". I have minimal sympathy for the subjects of the show.
