It’s Christmas Day, and it’s time for family. Consider watching some of my favorite Christmas movies with your family:
Traditional:
- Miracle on 34th Street (the black and white version with Natalie Wood, not the remake, and not the one that Ted Turner colorized) This is the one that my Dad watched with us every year. As a teen, I was sick of watching this one, but as an adult I really appreciate the memories that come with it.
- It’s a Wonderful Life: My parents didn’t like this one, but I have grown to appreciate the wholesome message here. I try to watch this one every year.
Action:
- Die Hard: My sister doesn’t think this is a Christmas movie, but her husband agrees with me on this one.
Comedy:
- Four Christmases: This one has become a favorite in the past couple of years. I love the scene where Vince Vaughn visits his mother. I always laugh.

Agree with the first three, I haven’t seen Four Christmases, I’ll have to look for this one.
While I never really liked the Scrooge stories growing up, I found one that I love…
A Christmas Carol with George C Scott.
God Bless us ALL, Everyone!

We have “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” waiting for later today. I haven’t seen that one since it came out.
We skipped “Hogfather” last year since it’s over three hours long. It doesn’t seem to be well known in America; it’s a film adaptation of one of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books. The Hogfather (Santa Claus, more or less) is missing, so Death takes on his duties while some associates try to find out what happened.
There’s the famous scene in the department store, where Death is passing out toys to children. A little girl wants a sword instead of the usual girl toys. [“she” is the mother, Crumley is a store manager]
“You can’t give her that!’ she screamed. ‘It’s not safe!’
IT’S A SWORD, said the Hogfather. THEY’RE NOT MEANT TO BE SAFE.
‘She’s a child!’ shouted Crumley.
IT’S EDUCATIONAL.
‘What if she cuts herself?’
THAT WILL BE AN IMPORTANT LESSON.”

And to top it off “How The Grinch Stole Christmas”, for the little ones.

Merry Christmas y’all.
I may rewatch 7 Days In May or Dr. Strangelove just because.
Besides, I love a good B&W flick!
