The left hates Rush

The 1980s Canadian rock band Rush is apparently hated by the left. It seems that the band’s drummer, Neil Peart, was a huge Ayn Rand fan. (Incidentally, I think that Peart was one of the greatest drummers of all time.) Since Peart was the writer of most of the band’s lyrics, many of the band’s songs had significant libertarian themes.

No, his mind is not for rent
To any god or government.
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren’t permanent –
But change is

Tom Sawyer, by Rush

The author of this story says that Rand had objectivist fantasies of self-reliance before going on to lament that some members of Congress “would rather leave billionaires untaxed than take care of America’s children.” I wasn’t aware that it was the responsibility of billionaires to care for America’s children.” He ends the article by saying “So, in closing, fuck you, Rush.”

Rush wasn’t my introduction to the ideals of liberty and freedom. For me, it was Robert Heinlein’s excellent fiction. Rush just gave those ideas a tune.

Fuck Rush? No, fuck you commie leftists.

My three favorite Rush songs (in no particular order) are:

Tom Sawyer:

The Spirit of Radio:

Then there is Red Barchetta, a song about the joy of driving a car in an era where cars have been outlawed, proving that Rush was truly ahead of their time:

Oathkeepers

This California sheriff is taking a lot of heat for being a past member of the “extremist Oath Keepers militia” back in 2014. The Oathkeepers are being unreservedly maligned. They aren’t extremists in my book.

I was a member in the past, because as a veteran and a first responder, I agreed with their ten point promise:

  1. We will NOT obey orders to disarm the American people.
  2. We will NOT obey orders to conduct warrantless searches of the American people
  3. We will NOT obey orders to detain American citizens as “unlawful enemy combatants” or to subject them to military tribunal.
  4. We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a “state of emergency” on a state.
  5. We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty.
  6. We will NOT obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps.
  7. We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.
  8. We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to “keep the peace” or to “maintain control.”
  9. We will NOT obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies.
  10. We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.

In other words, they are keeping their oath of enlistment to support and defend the Constitution.

I guess that is extremism.

Little Marxist

One of my wife’s friends is from Cuba. That friend has been dating a man from Puerto Rico, and the boyfriend has a child from a previous marriage. Let’s refer to the kid as Carlos. I first met Carlos about six years ago, when he was eight years old or so. He was a decent kid who collected coins as a hobby. He’s fourteen now. He has been in the process of “finding himself” for the past few months.

It happens. My niece decided she was gay. Then a few months later, no longer gay, but a vegetarian. Now she is back to Pescatarian. I guess kids have to experiment. My son did something similar when he was 15 or so. He decided that he wanted to be Socialist, mostly because he thought the government should pay for everything. That phase lasted until he got his first paycheck and saw how much was taken out in taxes. “This is bullshit,” was the phrase he used.

Anyway, back to Carlos. He came home recently and announced that he is a Marxist. On his visitation weekends with Mom (who is also a hardcore lefty), the two of them have been going to protest marches in places like Tallahassee, where he is waving signs saying things like “Capitalism kills” along with signs disparaging the US military, calling them baby killers, that sort of thing. He also marches with the Defund the Police, things like that.

My wife’s friend was willing to ignore it. She found a Che shirt in his closet. As a Cuban, she came unglued. I’ve seen the kid’s social media posts. He blames the US for supporting Pinochet, says he was elected and the US is to blame for supporting a dictator. He claims he is going to head to Canada as soon as he is 18. (Why do they always pick Canada?)

I can’t talk to the disgusting little monster without wanting to punch him in the face. Oh, and mom? That little communist is a certified nutcase. She is also a middle school social studies teacher.

Star Wars isn’t woke enough

Now Jedi Kinights, a fictional group who lived a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, are not woke enough, according to Scientific American.

The Jedi are inappropriate mascots for social justice. Although they’re ostensibly heroes within the Star Wars universe, the Jedi are inappropriate symbols for justice work. They are a religious order of intergalactic police-monks, prone to white saviorism and toxically masculine approaches to conflict resolution (violent duels with phallic lightsabers, gaslighting by means of “Jedi mind tricks,” etc.).

The Jedi are also an exclusionary cult, membership to which is partly predicated on the possession of heightened psychic and physical abilities… The heroic Jedi are thus emblems for a host of dangerously reactionary values and assumptions.

It’s a movie, people. Get over yourselves.

Projection

Salon magazine published an article, claiming that gun manufacturers are somehow evil and targeting young boys as future customers. How do they do this, according to Salon? By sponsoring youth shooting clubs and shooters, by creating a “link” to “false machismo” by associating their products with military and police through such tactics as calling their product lines “Military and Police,” or by offering what customers want by selling guns in colors other than black, like “Pink Platinum, Purple Platinum, and Harvest Moon Orange.”

They do this even as they themselves groom kids to be victims of their sick, perverted pedophile tendencies by publishing article about encouraging transgender children or pushing for laws to allow trannies to use bathrooms alongside their intended victims in elementary schools.

As for me? I’d rather teach kids to shoot, so they can defend themselves from these fucking sick child rapists. I want my grandchildren to be able to shoot these sick fuckers in the face.

Who knew?

If everyone has more money, money is worth less. Who knew?

Let’s say that I gave every single person in the world a million dollars. We would all be rich, right? Of course not. How would I buy a sandwich? No one would be willing to sell me one for $5, because they don’t need $5. They have a million. Money would be so commonplace, it would be worthless.

This concept seems to escape those who push for a higher minimum wage, who are all now surprised that the massive government money giveaways and higher wages have reduced their purchasing power. What they don’t understand is that higher wages aren’t reduced by inflation, higher wages CAUSE inflation.

There will always be some who have more than others, because some are smarter, some work harder, some are just more fortunate. You can’t change that by handing out money, because money isn’t wealth.
