Take 6 black men, a Muslim, a Black woman, and Asian woman, and a white woman. Put them in an isolated research station on Antarctica. What could go wrong?
That’s right- violent crime is up 100% across the entire continent. The only white woman within thousands of miles has been raped and is calling for help that can’t arrive for another six months. There have been assaults, death threats, and there is even a report that someone’s bike has been stolen. (OK, maybe not the last one.)

I wondered about that crew. All the news reports posted old pictures of previous years’ teams, all whytte, incidentally, and not the current group. I thought that was suspicious.

Ok, first of all the lone white women in this group is a moron for placing herself in such a scenario to begin with. That isn’t victim blaming, that’s common sense. Secondly, where did they find six brothas who were willing to go to Antarctica for an extended stay? It’s colder than a sumbitch down there, and the entire setup somehow seems unlikely.

The US has McMurdo sound and 3 others and a bunch of stations not occupied during winter, plus possibly 2 off books sites.
Russian has a couple, UK a couple, new zealand has 3 but 1 is attached to McMurdo, Australia 1. Etc. last i heard there was almost 100 different international facilities in Antarctica. It is also their winter right now.

A scientist friend who did several seasons at a larger base in Antarctica said that in his time, everyone had to do in-depth psych interviews to be sure that they were reasonable people who were self-controlled.

FYI – Her name may be Dutch BUT South Africa was a Dutch colony. The Dutch control of the Cape Colony lasted until 1795 when it was taken over by the British, and again from 1803 to 1806 before being permanently ceded to Britain in 1814.

Was no information available about the “team composition” available prior to deployment ?
Were information about whom was going, and that communal imprisonment with no relief possible (that’s really what it is) for six months would occur, prudence would dictate a revision to one’s plans. Unless one’s “committment to science” constituted self-blindness about how things would inevitably play out.
If under an obligatory contract, a pre-arranged “medical emergency” (have a friendly doctor on tap who can order hospitalization) might save the day.
